Hailed by piano guru David Dubal as "the greatest Mexican pianist" and praised by the press in New York after his Carnegie Hall debut for his "improvisatory freedom, sonorous climaxes, and formidable octaves", Abdiel Vázquez enjoys an active career as both a concert pianist and conductor in his native Mexico and abroad.
During the 2013 season he has performed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall as a Grand Prix winner of the New York Concerti Sinfonietta's Shining Stars Debut Series, giving the New York premier of Manuel Ponce's Romantic Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, and he also jumped in for a last minute performance of Beethoven's 4th Piano Concerto with the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra to great critical acclaim. This year he also performs Beethoven's 2nd Concerto, Prokofiev's 1st Concerto, and Ravel's Concerto with the Bellas Artes Chamber Orchestra, UNAM Philharmonic orchestra, and Sinaloa de las Artes Symphony Orchestra. He is also scheduled to make a solo recital debut at the prestigious International Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato.
Abdiel has performed as a soloist with orchestras in South America, Europe and the United States. In Mexico he performs regularly with all the major orchestras.
He has earned top rankings and prizes in such prestigious competitions as Shanghai, Fulbright in Arkansas, Vina del Mar, Ponce and Parnassos in Mexico, Gabala in Azerbaijan, Cantu in Italy, and Shining Stars Debuts in New York. His performances in these contests have been praised by such legendary figures as Gary Graffman, Paul Badura-Skoda, Idil Biret, and Dmitri Bashkirov. He has also won the top piano competitions in his home country.
Vazquez studied in Monterrey, New York, and Madrid with Gerardo Gonzalez, James Tocco, David Gilbert, and Oxana Yablonskaya.
